It was very interesting to participate in the symposium “Digital Caucasiology – a Change of Paradigm?” at Frankfurt University, October 4-7. The symposium spanned several generations of caucasiologists, from senior scholars to young PhD candidates. My presentation was entitled “The linguistic landscape of Batumi. The Case of Luka Asatiani Street”. It was a pleasure to chair the final session, where Senior Professor Mzekala Shanidze shared a recording from the 1987 100 years’ anniversary conference for her father, Professor Akaki Shanidze, who participated himself and gave a speech . Another speaker at that conference in 1987 was Prof Hewitt, who now shared his memories of the 1987 event at the symposium in Frankfurt. (As I was also present at the 1987 conference, this was particularly interesting).

Many thanks to the organizers and Volkswagen Foundation!
